A COASTAL RETREAT

This rather grand Edwardian house overlooking the Taw estuary was undergoing major refurbishment –so too the sloping garden. On top of the huge garage was the main roof garden with a small lawn surrounded by cobbles and raised beds of oak sleepers. Planting was a mix of hardy exotics and grasses to give year round interest as the house was often let out.
A set of sleeper steps led to a tiny annexe at the very top of the garden; here the planting was a more seasonal, cottagey style that would cope with the salty, coastal winds. Arriving at a building site may seem overwhelming - but each area of this complex garden just needed managing one step at a time. Good teamwork brings the project together between client, project manager, designer and the builders.
